Hastelloy C2000 is a highly versatile nickel-chromium-molybdenum alloy renowned for its exceptional corrosion resistance across a broad spectrum of harsh environments. Engineered to perform well in both oxidizing and reducing conditions, Hastelloy C2000 stands out due to its balanced composition, which includes significant amounts of chromium, molybdenum, and a unique addition of copper. This combination enhances its resistance to pitting, crevice corrosion, and stress corrosion cracking.
Fabrication of Hastelloy C2000 pipe fittings involves several specialized processes to maintain the alloy's exceptional corrosion resistance and mechanical properties. The alloy's balanced composition allows it to be readily formed and welded using standard techniques suitable for high-nickel alloys. During fabrication, it is crucial to perform solution annealing at approximately 1121°C (2050°F) followed by rapid quenching to ensure optimal microstructure and corrosion resistance. Welding Hastelloy C2000 requires the use of matching filler metals to preserve its integrity and prevent the introduction of impurities. Cold working may be necessary to achieve specific shapes and dimensions, and subsequent annealing can relieve any residual stresses.
Hastelloy C2000 fittings are essential in highly corrosive environments. In chemical processing, they handle aggressive acids like sulfuric and hydrochloric acids, making them perfect for reactors and piping systems. Pollution control applications use these fittings in flue gas desulfurization units due to their resistance to acidic gases. The oil and gas industry relies on them for sour gas service, while the pulp and paper sector employs them in bleach plants. Their superior resistance to pitting, crevice corrosion, and stress corrosion cracking ensures reliability and longevity in demanding conditions.
